Agra Metro: Construction Of 29.4 KM Project To Begin, Work To Be Completed In Five Years

The construction of the Agra Metro project that is spread across 29.4 km and has two corridors is set to be inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at 11:30 AM on 7 December, Business Standard reports.

Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Yogi Adityanath and Union Minister of Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri will be present in the event at 15 Battalion PAC parade ground in Agra. The project costs Rs 8,379.62 crore and will provide an environment-friendly Mass Rapid Transit System to Agra.

It will be completed in the next five years and will benefit the 26 lakh populace of Agra along with the 60 lakh tourists who visit the city annually.

The metro project connects major tourist attractions like Taj Mahal, Agra Fort and Sikandra to railway stations and bus stands. This initiative was earlier inaugurated by PM Modi ahead of the Lok Sabha polls on March 8, 2019.
