Ahead Of PM Modi’s Summit With Chinese President Xi Jinping, Centre Allows 5G Tech Demo By Huawei

The Centre has allowed Chinese telecom gear manufacturer Huawei to participate in the 5G use case demos during the India Mobile Congress that is slated to begin in Delhi from 14 October, reports Times of India.

The development comes ahead of the Chinese President Xi Jinping’s visit to India for the second informal summit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on Friday (11 October). The two leaders had their inaugural Informal Summit in Wuhan, China in April 2018.

Though, the clearance for 5G use case demos have been given to Huawei but the government has yet not taken any final decision on company’s participation in the the upcoming wider and broad-based 5G trials, which gives an opportunity to the companies to showcase their technological prowess more effectively.

According to the report, Huawei will present the use case demos in partnership with Airtel and Vodafone-Idea.

"The company has received permission, and we are hopeful to see demos that show us benefits of migrating to a 5G regime," an official source was quoted in the report as saying.

However, the source made it clear that linking the permission for use cases to trial permission would be “incorrect”.

"It will be incorrect to link this permission to trials. That is a different matter and is being considered separately. No decision has been made on the trials so far," the source said.
