The central government has approved the Rs 5,523 crore second phase of the Ahmedabad Metro which shall connect Motera to Gandhinagar.
The state assembly in Gujarat announced that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would inaugurate phase-I of the Metro on 4 March and the 6.5 km stretch from Vastral Gam to Apparel Park has been chosen for the inauguration.
The new phase will run along the North-South corridor (APMC-Vasna to Motera). The Akshardham-Motera stretch spans 20.84 km while the GNLU-GIFT City corridor is 5.4km long as per reports by Times of India.
The 28.5 km phase-II which comprises of an elevated corridor covering popular destinations, including educational institutions like Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University, Sachivalaya, Akshardham, Gujarat National Law University, Mahatma Mandir, Infocity, Gift City and Sachivalaya.
As per the Gujarat government, the phase-II’s detailed project report (DPR) was sent to the Union government on 24 October 2017. A revised DPR was submitted to the Union government on September 12 last year.
