AIADMK MLAs On Hunger Strike Against Sasikala’s Hijack? Here’s What We Know

While the blame game is on in Tamil Nadu, it doesn't seem like things are too positive for Sasikala's camp. Unlike what previous reports suggested, not all MLAs that the AIADMK general secretary is banking on may support her in the final battle. Some, according to a report in Firstpost, claim that they have been taken ‘hostage’.

According to the Firstpost, at least 20 MLAs from Sasikala's camp want to join Pannerselvam but have not been allowed to get out of the resort. One party MLA has reportedly complained to Governor C Vidyasagar Rao about the manner in which the Sasikala camp has held 130 MLAs hostage in a resort on the outskirts of Chennai. Others, the report suggests, are on hunger strike against the ‘hijack’.

The AIADMK has a total of 134 MLAs in the Tamil Nadu assembly. The majority mark in the 234-member assembly is 118. Sasikala claims that at least 120 MLAs of the party support her. Panneerselvam, on the other hand, has said that he has at least 50 MLAs on his side. The numbers, given by either side, may not be accurate. 8 Congress MLAs might complicate the situation further.

No official word from the Raj Bhavan has not helped either. Governor Rao arrived in Chennai in the afternoon on Thursday. Panneerselvam seized the opportunity to call on the governor first, meeting him at 5 pm. Sasikala met Rao at 7.30 pm, staking her claim to form the government. Reports suggest that the
