Aligarh: Muslim Ram Devotee Beaten Up, Gets Death Threats By Community Members For Reading Ramayana, Gita

In Aligarh, Dehligate’s Mahfooz Nagar, a Muslim devotee of Lord Ram was beaten up by community members for reading Ramayana and Geeta, reports ZEE News.

Dilsher, a resident of Gosht Wali Gali was assaulted by radicals for reading Ramayana. He was beaten up, his Harmonium was broken and the religious books were also taken away by the attackers.

Dilsher went with the broken Harmonium to the police station and shared his ordeal. He said that he works as a security guard in a meat factory. On Thursday (4 July), he came back from his night-duty and started reading Ramayana after taking a bath. He alleged that at that time, Sameer, Zakir and other men barged in his house and started beating and abusing him. They broke his Harmonium and took away Hindu religious scriptures at his house.

Dilsher says that he has a habit of reading Ramayana daily after taking a bath. He says that he has been reading Ramayana since 1979. He says that he also reads Bhagwadgeeta, which provides him peace of mind. Dilsher’s wife confirmed her husband’s habit and said that she had no problem with it.

Dilsher said that after the assault, he called up his supervisor at the factory for advice, who asked him to go to the police station and file a complaint. Dilsher went to the SSP office along with his broken Harmonium and filed a complaint. Two of the accused have been arrested by the police.

Dilsher says that he has been continuously facing threats over his habit of reading Hindu scriptures. He says that many oppose him and threaten him of dire consequences, and there is a constant danger to his life.
