To avoid the hassles of standing in long queues for baggage check-in, Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has launched automated self bag drop machines to ease the process. This will reportedly ensure that check-ins are done within 45 seconds. It is the first time in the country that this technology is being used.

The technology has been designed by Materna IPS and as of now, passengers of Air Asia and Spice Jet can avail the facility.

Economic Times quoted Bangalore International Airport Limited’s (BIAL) Chief Operating Officer Javed Malik as saying, “Continuous improvement of passenger experience at the airport has always been a priority for us and introduction of the new Self-Bag-Drop is testimony to that. We’re excited to be the first airport in the Country to offer our passengers and airlines state-of-the-art technology, that will ease the process of air travel. Our goal is to use technology to improve the passenger experience and to make airport operations more efficient.”

32 kiosks are available that print boarding passes and produce baggage tags. At a later stage, there are plans on introducing multiple payment options at the kiosks.
