All SAARC Nations Except Pakistan Announce Contribution To Covid-19 Emergency Fund Mooted By PM Modi

Imran Khan led Pakistan is the only member nation of the South Asian Association for regional Cooperation (SAARC) which has made nil contribution to the SAARC COVID-19 Emergency Fund.

This fund has been proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to help the member nations contain the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) and set an example to the world doing the same, reports Hindustan Times.

The fund now stands at a size of $18.8 million with all other member nations of the SAARC grouping having pledged funds to develop a coordinated response to contain the pandemic. This includes the $10 million contribution from India.

Apart from India's contribution, $1 million have been contributed by Afghanistan, $1.5 million by Bangladesh, $1,00,000 by Bhutan, $2,00,000 by Maldives, $1 Million by Nepal and $5 million by Sri Lanka.

Hailing the contributions made by different nations of the grouping, the Union Ministry for External Affairs led by Dr S Jaishankar said in a statement, "It truly reflects the deeply shared sense of determination in the participating countries to act together."
