The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has amended the Interconnection Regulations of 2017 that rolls out a framework for technical compliance of conditional access system (CAS) and subscriber management system (SMS) for the cable and broadcasting sector.

The regulator has clarified that oversight and operationalization of the framework should be conducted via a testing and certification agency that the authority will prescribe later on.

Apparently, this technical framework is referred to as an initial step that can define an indigenous group of specifications according to international standards. This is slated to roll out multiple integral advantages to the consumers and the television broadcasting sector.

TRAI maintains that a closely synchronized operation of the CAS and the SMS will provide a factual reporting of the subscriber base and cut down the loss of revenue to shareholders due to incorrect recording of users.

Furthermore, these stakeholders will be stirred to drive up investments in content quality due to a better assurance of their due revenues. Essential safeguards against hacking and content piracy will be introduced in addition to enhancing the end-to-end compliance and bringing down litigations amongst the service providers, reports Business Standard.
