Amidst the controversy surrounding the arrest of a journalist in Uttar Pradesh over objectionable posts on social media, including comments targeting Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, it has emerged that under the current LDF government in Kerala, 119 people were booked in the state for online criticism of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, reports Times Now News.
The information was brought to light by the Leader of Opposition in the Kerala Assembly, Ramesh Chennithala. Vijayan did not disagree with the claim but remarked that the number was lower, at 119, and not 149 as Chennithala had asserted.
"What is happening in Kerala is similar to the developments in Uttar Pradesh ruled by Yogi Adityanath," Chennithala had stated.
The opposition lawmaker added that on the other hand, police took no action against who defamed him on social media, nor those who had targeted former chief minister Oomen Chandy online.
Among those who have faced arrest in Kerala, are also some government employees.
