Officials of the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Estates Department were in for a rude shock as they opened up the government bungalow allotted to Samajwadi Party (SP) boss Akhilesh Yadav for inspection after him having hand over the keys late last night (8 June).
The government bungalow, located in amongst the best neighbourhoods of Lucknow city, lay in total shambles, DNA has reported.
The property was opened up in front of the media which witnessed the mess in which the property was after Yadav and his family vacated it. Reportedly, it appeared as if the Yadavs had taken out their anger over the eviction on the house.
The bungalow was only recently renovated in 2016 at a cost of over Rs 45 crore.
Officials have alleged that ACs, Turkish tiles from the swimming pool, Italian marble from the floor, imported lights and even bathroom fittings were missing from the house. Even the gym was left empty of its equipment.
Messages like, ‘It’s a bad day’, ‘life is too short, don’t worry’ and drawings were strewn over the bedroom walls as witnessed by the media.
Commenting on the damage, a senior official of the department said, “We are making a list of the missing items and assessing damage done to house. We will seek legal opinion and then serve a notice to the owner for the recovery of items missing and cost of damage done to the government property.”
No other former Chief Minister (CM), including BSP supremo Mayawati, and Akhilesh’s father Mulayam Singh Yadav have been accused of plundering the house of its equipment as they made to vacate the government properties.
An SP spokesperson however refuted the claims, “Charges are frivolous and baseless. He has taken away only those items which were bought by him or gifted by party men, friends and well-wishers.”
