Actor Anupam Kher today (11 October) has been appointed as the new chairman of the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune, succeeding television actor Gajendra Chauhan.
Kher has acted in over 500 films including international films such as Golden Globe nominated Bend It Like Beckham, Ang Lee’s Golden Lion-winning Lust, and David O Russell’s Oscar-winning Silver Linings Playbook.
He has previously been appointed to the post of chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the National School of Drama (NSD).
Chahuan’s two-year tenure as chairman – ending in March 2017 – was marked by a 139-day strike by students, who protested against what they claimed was a "politically-motivated appointment" .
