The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) has started off the local body polls in Arunachal Pradesh on a positive note. The panchayat and municipal elections in the north-eastern state are set to be held on 22 December, Hindustan Times reports.

However, the BJP has already emerged victorious unopposed in 5,410 of the 8,291 gram panchayat member posts, 96 of the 240 zila parishad member posts and 5 out of the 20 corporator seats in the Itanagar Municipal Corporation.

Reflecting on the encouraging results, the state’s Chief Minister Pema Khandu tweeted, “An impressive start for BJP in the state’s panchayat and municipal polls. Congratulations to all the candidates from BJP who have won unopposed. Also thanks to people of Arunachal for their unwavering trust in BJP and PM Narendra Modi’s leadership.”

Union Minister and BJP’s bigwig from Arunachal Pradesh, Kiren Rijiju, heaped praised on the party functionaries for these outcomes. “Congratulations to BJP candidates who won unopposed in the Panchayat & Municipal polls, 96 out of 240 ZPMs, 5410 out of 8291 GPMs, 5 out of 20 Corporators. Arunachal Pradesh stands with PM @NarendraModi Ji. Well guided by @JPNadda Ji, @PemaKhanduBJP Ji, State President BR Wage Ji,” Rijiju tweeted.

BJP’s victory in Arunchal Pradesh follows its resounding win in the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections in Rajasthan.
