Top Naxal and member of Bihar-Chhattisgarh-Jharkhand Special Area Committee of CPI(Maoist) has surrendered before commissioner of Palamau division, Manoj Kumar Jha and DIG (Palamau division), Vipul Shukla, PTI has reported.

This surrender comes in the backdrop of the arrest of suspected ‘Urban Naxals’, who have been accused of plotting to overthrow the elected government and alleged plans to assassinate Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Before surrender he was carrying a bounty of Rs 25 lakh. He has been an active Naxal for the past 25 years. Garwah SP Shivani Tiwary said he was leading the Maoists group in Budapahar.

A native of Belgada village, Latehar, a naxal-affected district, Ganju, said the people look at adivasi community in despicable manner, this led him to join the ultra outfit.

However, he said that he surrendered due to family responsibilities. Further, he added that Naxals had given up on the Maoist ideology. He also said that he had the intention to bring his community back to the mainstream.

Incidentally the narrative of Naxals championing the rights of the adivasi community has been punctured by another surrendered Naxal.
