Virgin Group founder Richard Branson is expected to meet Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to clear “misunderstandings” on the Mumbai-Pune Hyperloop project.
It was earlier reported that the Uddhav Thackeray led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government is mulling to scrap the ambitious Hyperloop project which will connect Mumbai and Pune.
The reports said, the project being implemented by Richard Branson’s Virgin Hyperloop One has been placed under review by the current government. As per the reports, some Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leaders had questioned the project and its potential expenditure.
The NCP leaders added that the project would be scrapped until the experiments bear concrete results. The Shiv Sena though has taken a guarded stance to inform that any final decision would only be taken after the review is complete.
The Mumbai-Pune hyperloop project seeks to reduce the travel time between the two cities to just 23 minutes. It was approved by the erstwhile Fadnavis led government in July.
The hyperloop project will be divided in two phases. Phase-I which will be a 11.8 km demonstration track needing an investment of Rs 5,000 crore. This test track will be developed in Pimpri-Chinchwad’s Wakad.
