Over 1,500 members of all four factions of the separatist National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) laid down arms before Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal in Guwahati on Thursday (30 January).

State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and top police officers were also present on the occasion at Guwahati Medical College Hospital auditorium.

“Glad to announce the Arms Laying Ceremony by members of the NDFB groups today at Guwahati. The historic Bodo Peace Accord heralds a new era of peace in Assam. The path laid down by Hon PM Shri Narendra Modi and HM Shri Amit Shah on prosperity of North East gets a shot in the arm”, Sarma tweeted.

The development comes a week after over 600 militants of eight proscribed insurgent groups had surrendered before CM Sonowal.

The 644 militants who laid down arms on 23 January in presence of Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal belonged to eight insurgent groups -- United Liberation Front Asom - I (ULFA-I), National Democratic Front of Boroland (NDFB), Rabha National Liberation Front (RNLF), Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), CPI (Maoist), National Liberation Front of Bengali (NLFB), National Santhal Liberation Army (NSLA), and ADF.
