Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had said that Assam would soon become one of India’s major hydrocarbon hub catering to the eastern neighbours of the country and Southeast Asia, reports The Hindu.
Pradhan, on Friday (2 March) inaugurated hydrocarbon-related projects worth Rs 1,500 crore in the state. He said that the centre has been pumping in investments in the hydrocarbon sector to increase domestic production and to boost exports.
"Our vision is to make Assam-a hydrocarbon trading hub. Our investment in this sector would boost production so that we can supply to Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and Bhutan and other South Asian countries under Act East Policy,".
Eight of these projects under Hydrocarbon Vision 2030 were inaugurated in Guwahati.
Pradhan said the Centre decided to invest Rs 22,594 core for increasing Numaligarh Refinery Limited’s refining capacity from the existing 3 Million Metric Tonnes per annum (MMTPA) to 9 MMTPA, keeping export of oil in mind.
