AIMIM MP from Hyderabad Asaduddin Owaisi on Tuesday (28 July) came under fire from various twitter users after he raised objection to Prime Minister Narendra Modi attending the Ram Mandir's Bhoomi Pujan at Ayodhya in an official capacity by arguing that it would be a violation of his constitutional oath.

Owaisi in a tweet said that, "Attending Bhumi Pujan in official capacity will be a violation of @PMOIndia's constitutional oath. Secularism is part of the Basic Structure of Constitution..".

Owaisi's argument that Prime Minister Modi attending the Bhoomi Pujan in an official capacity would be a violation of secularism did not go down well with many twitter users who retorted by asking whether lawmakers attending Iftaar parties too should not be opposed using this logic.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to take part in the Bhoomi Pujan along with BJP stalwart L K Advani and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on 5 August in a ceremony conducted by revered Hindu saints.

The Prime Minister will also place a 40 kg silver brick at the construction site as part of the ceremony.
