Advocate R K Dhavan who is representing the Sunni central wakf board in the Supreme Court for the Ram Janmabhoomi case on Monday (14 October) termed Mughal king Aurangzeb as one of the most liberal rulers.

Dhavan had also argued that belief in Lord Ram’s birth taking place under the central dome of the disputed structure does not give Hindus the title or ownership of the land.

Incidentally his comment on Aurbangze being a “liberal ruler” was heavily panned on social media.

Such a narrative has been time and again been peddled by various eminent historians. This has included whitewashing his various crimes like destroying Kesava Deo temple where Lord Krishna was born, the Kashi Vishwanath Temple in Benares, and the Somnath temple in Gujarat.

It has also been documented that four million Indians were killed under Aurangzeb, who reintroduced Jiziya tax on non-Muslims and also forcibly converted Hindus to Islam.
