Islamic Republic of Iran has issued an arrest warrant and sough the help of interpol in detaining US President Donald Trump over his alleged role in the killing of its top commander Qasem Soleimani in January, the country’s semi-official Fars news agency reported today (Jun 29).
Tehran prosecutor Ali Alqasimehr said today (Jun 29) that Trump, along with more than 30 others, who he claimed are involved in the January 3 attack that killed General Qassem Soleimani, face "murder and terrorism charges".
Alqasimehr said that Iran would continue to pursue his prosecution even after his presidency ends.
Soleimani commanded Iran’s Quds Force, the foreign operations wing of the elite paramilitary Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps responsible for extraterritorial military and clandestine operations. The Trump administration labeled him a terrorist, and Washington deemed him responsible for the deaths of hundreds of U.S. troops in Iraq.
Under a red notice, local authorities make the arrests on behalf of the country that requested it.
