An FIR has been registered against Communist Party of India Marxist (CPIM) general secretary Sitaram Yechury, who said that the legendary epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata are abundant with instances of violence and battles, reports ANI.
A complaint has been filed against Yechury with senior superintendent of police (SSP), Haridwar by Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev along with others. Speaking to the media after filing complaint, Ramdev said, “We have filed a complaint against Yechury for insulting our ancestors. It is an offence. He should be put behind bars. We have demanded a strict investigation into the matter,’’
Yechury, on Thursday, alleged that BJP is fragmenting society for votes through its divisive policies, and branded the religious epics of Ramayana and Mahabharata as specimens of Hindu violence.
“Sadhvi Pragya says that Hindus do not believe in violence. Many kings and principalities have fought battles in the country. Even Ramayana and Mahabharata are full of instances of violence,” Yechury added.
“Narrating the epics being a prachark and still you say Hindu’s cant be violent? What is the logic behind saying that there is a religion that engages violence and we Hindus don’t,” Yechury said.
Yechury, since then, has come across heavy criticism for his statements, with the Shiv Sena asking him to drop ‘Sitaram’ from his name.
