The Assam government has said that the Border Guards Bangladesh is obstructing the sealing of around 3.5 km on the Indo-Bangladesh border in Karimganj district, reports Business Standard.

Sealing the border with barbed fencing is being done by Central agencies like NPCC, CPWD and NBCC, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary was quoted as saying by BS.

"NBCC is working on a 4.5-km single line fence along the Kushiyara river in Karimganj. NBCC informed that work is progressing slowly there as the Border Guards Bangladesh is obstructing it," Patowary.

"At the 41st high-level empowered committee meeting, Ministry of External Affairs informed that no clarification was obtained, despite frequent contact with Bangladesh authorities," the Minister stated.

While replying on behalf of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Patowary said that Ministry of Home Affairs had been requested to sort out the issue by consulting the Bangladesh government and External Affairs Ministry.
