The previous week, the High Court of Karnataka had given an extension to its earlier deadline to fill potholes, after the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) sought three days more to complete the action. There are a few hours left for the task to be completed but potholes remain more or less the same in Silicon City.
Mayor of Bengaluru, Sampath Raj, was quoted as saying, “80 per cent of potholes have been filled by Sunday. I have directed the officials to fill the remaining by Monday morning.”
Most of the zones indicated that there are no potholes under their division, which is obviously too good to be true. Deccan Herald mentioned that only the road infrastructure division that looks after major roads and flyovers numbered the potholes as 67, and said they will fill them by Monday .
The 100-odd villages that have been inducted to the BBMP recently are excluded from this. 200 km of roads are undergoing white-topping have been excluded too. Potholes still visibly remain in the areas of Basavangudi, Chamarajpete, Dasarahalli, BTM Layout, Langford Town.
After the heavy rain of Monday, many more have surfaced and the solutions offered don’t seem to accommodate for a long-term solution.
