Beating Coronavirus: Coal India Sets Up Over 1,500 Isolation Beds In Eight Coal Bearing States

State owned Navratna PSU Coal India Limited (CIL) has joined the nation's efforts to contain the spread of Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic by setting up facility for 1,509 isolation beds in eight States, reports Economic Times.

The isolation beds have been set up by CIL in eight coal bearing States of Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Maharashtra and Assam.

Of the total, CIL arm Mahanadi Coalfields Limited (MCL) has set up the maximum number of isolation beds, all in Odisha. In Odisha, MCL has set up as many as 664 beds in places like Bhubaneswar, Angul, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur and Sundargarh.

Another CIL arm Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL) has come up with a facility for 200 isolation beds in Madhya Pradesh.

CIL, through its subsidiaries has also distributed more than 3.3 lakh face masks to the people in and around the coal mines operated by it. Furthermore, CIL has also pledged a contribution of Rs 220 crore to the PM CARES fund which was launched recently by Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi himself.
