The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has appointed Broadcast Engineering Consultants India Limited (BECIL) to conduct audits and ensure cable TV and direct-to-home (DTH) companies are complying with the new regulatory norms, reports Financial Express .
As the operators are found to be flouting new tariff order and regulatory regime, audits in this regard is supposed to begin soon, said the sector regulator.
“ BECIL will be conducting the audit on behalf of TRAI to ensure compliance with the new regulatory framework. We request all distribution platform operators (DPOs) to ensure compliance with the new regulatory framework in letter and spirit,” TRAI Secretary S K Gupta was quoted in the report as saying.
Gupta added that the DTH and cable TV operators would be randomly selected and BECIL would conduct audits to see if they are complying with the new regulatory framework.
Earlier, TRAI Chairman RS Sharma had said that consumer choice and consumer interest are “non-negotiable” and “cannot be compromised” and companies not following the rules would have to face the consequences.
