Belligerent Nepal To Unveil New Map To Claim Indian Territories As Its Own Amid Hints Of Chinese Influence

Nepal’s Prime Minister K P Oli told his parliament on Tuesday (20 May) that his country will unveil a new map of the country, Times of India has reported.

Via this controversial map Nepal seeks to claim Indian territories like Kalapani, Limpiyadhura and Lipulekh as its own.

Nepal took this belligerent stance after India inaugurated a road to Lipulekh pass on 8 May. Nepal immediately objected and claimed the new 80 km passes through its territory.

India has over the years maintained that Kalapani is an integral part of its territory and falls in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district. India has also made it clear that the newly inaugurated road completely lies in its territory.

This act by Nepal comes despite India’s assurance that the two countries will resume the border delineation exercise once the Covid-19 threat is over.

Following Nepal’s intense protests, Indian Army Chief General M M Naravane had even hinted that Nepal was probably acting on China’s behest in this matter.
