Bengal Violence: 400 BJP Workers Flee To Assam To Escape Persecution, Says Minister Himanta Assures Food And Shelter

As the political violence continues in West Bengal, workers of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and their families in areas bordering Assam have fled to the neighbouring state to escape persecution.

Around 400 BJP workers and their families have reached Dhubri in Assam. Finance minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that people who fled the violence are being provided with shelter and food.

“In a sad development 300-400 BJP Bengal karyakartas and family members have crossed over to Dhubri in Assam after being confronted with brazen persecution and violence. We are giving shelter and food. Mamata Banerjee Didi must stop this ugly dance of demonocracy! Bengal deserves better,” said Himanta Biswa Sarma, minister in the Assam government.

The BJP workers and their dispensation has been at the receiving end of major political violence launched by alleged TMC workers. This has led to the death of at least six BJP workers and left many others injured. The properties of BJP workers and party workers have been vandalised across the state.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had called West Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankar on Tuesday (4 May) expressing deep anguish over the alarmingly worrisome law and order situation in the state.

On the other hand, the stage which was set for BJP chief J P Nadda's sit-in protest in Kolkata has reportedly been broken down by the Kolkata police.
