Bengaluru Metro: Trial Runs On Purple Line Extension From Baiyappanahalli To Whitefield Will Begin In September

Trails on the Purple Line between Baiyappanahalli and KR Puram would start in September, with a goal of finishing the extension to Whitefield by December 2022, according to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) managing director Anjum Parvez.

The 15.25 km elevated line from Baiyappanahalli to Whitefield has two reaches: R1A, which runs from Baiyappanahalli to Seetharama Palya for 8.67 km, and R1B, which runs from Seetharama Palya to Whitefield for 7.14 km.

In the R1A section, Benniganahalli will be the only stop between Baiyappanahalli and K R Puram in September.

The completed Baiyappanahalli-Whitefield stretch will also include stops at Mahadevapura, Garudacharpalya, Hoodi Junction, Seetharama Palya, Kundalahalli, Nallurhalli, Sri Sathya Sai Hospital, Pattandur Agrahara, Kadugodi, Channasandra, and Whitefield.

This extension will benefit thousands of commuters who spend over two hours in traffic every day to reach Whitefield or drive into the city from Whitefield.

Meanwhile, the BMRCL has requested that the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) postpone the construction of two of seven flyovers for traffic on the Outer Ring Road due to Metro construction.

Following the completion of the Metro, the metro rail corporation will jointly construct flyovers at the Sarakki and Ittamadu junctions.

According to the Indian Express report, “At seven locations where the BBMP was planning to build flyovers on the Outer Ring Road, we have given clearances for five flyovers. In the remaining locations, we have decided to go for combined flyovers. They are holding the work at Sarakki and Ittamadu and it will be done on the pattern of the Ragigudda-Jayadeva stretch,” the BMRCL MD said.

The 15.25 km Purple Line extension project has repeatedly faced delays due to legal wrangling between environmental and local authorities over relocating around 60 trees near Benniganahalli Lake.
