The state-run Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has announced its plan to build helmet mounted displays for Indian military pilots with the help of Israeli company Elbit Systems, Economic Times has reported.

As per a statement from the company, it would manufacture helmet-mounted displays and helmet-pointing system for Indian Naval and rotary wing platforms. These displays would mainly be used by helicopter pilots.

It would display the pilot his or her platform, flight information, mission data, target information and other capabilities of the aircraft like optional weapons management, synthetic vision and low visibility take-off and landing.

This system would be integrated with cutting edge technology like night vision goggles, colour day and night display, head-tracking, censors, 3D symbology and more.

These helmet mounted displays further the heads up, eyes out concept which reduces the need to focus the eyes on flight instruments for observation of critical information like altitude, velocity, engine performance and warning indications.

This helps in enhancing mission performance and situational awareness.
