After having successfully inducted K-9 Vajra and M-777 ultra-light howitzer artillery guns, Indian Army has received another big shot in the arm with the induction of India's first indigenously designed and developed Dhanush 155/45 calibre towed Gun System.

The first such system was handed over to the Indian Army by Ordnance Factories Board (ORB) today (8 April 2019) and it can be deployed in all types of terrains, plains or slopes.

The guns, which are being made at Gun Carriage Factory of the ORB in Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh, is the first long range artillery towed gun to be made in India and will replace Swedish Bofors which have grown old since their induction in 1980.

The Dhanush system's designs are also based on the Bofors howitzer guns whose induction in the past had evolved into a big scam allegedly involving the then Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
