Big Boost To Farmers In Madhya Pradesh As Shivraj Govt Amends Mandi Act To Provide Maximum Value For Their Produce

Madhya Pradesh (MP)'s Chief Minister (CM) Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday (1 May) said that the state government has made amendments in the Mandi Act that enable the farmers to sell their produce to private traders besides selling them to mandis, reports Economic Times.

The move is aimed at providing farmers with the maximum value of their crops as in the mandi, the farmers have to sell their produce at the minimum support price (MSP).

Announcing the decision of the state government to the farmers via video conferencing, CM Chouhan said, "By developing a more competitive system, we have tried to provide the farmers with maximum value for their produce."

Under the amended Mandi act, the farmers will be able to bargain and sell their produce in any market of the country where they get higher prices. It shall also pave the way for the establishment of mandis in private sectors. It also permits the godowns and silo clod storages to be declared as private mandis.

The traders, food processors, exporters, wholesale sellers and end-users will have to take a licence to directly procure the crops from the farmer's home or the fields. To ensure minimal hassles, the system has been established for the traders to engage in trade in the entire State with a single license.
