The Bihar police on Tuesday (30 July) arrested a man in Bettiah town of West Champaran district of the state for running a Pro-Pakistan WhatsApp group, reports India Today.
According to the report, Saddam Quraishi, who is the admin of the ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ group on Whatsapp, was arrested from Naznin chowk, said Superintendent of Police (SP) Jayant Kant.
The police arrested Quraishi on charge of conspiring to disturb the unity and integrity of the country after a complaint by some locals.
As per the reports, the police acted upon the information that the WhatsApp group ‘Pakistan Zindabad’ was spewing venom and spreading communal hatred through its anti-India posts in Bettiah.
A case was registered against group admin Quraishi, a resident of Naznin Chowk, by the police under section 153A, 153B, and 298 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
Further investigation in the matter is going on as the police suspects that Quraishi might have links with Pakistan.
Meanwhile, in view of the increasing incidents of promotion of unlawful activities through social media, the Bihar Police is closely monitoring the WhatsApp groups across all the districts of the state.
