BJP leaders Kapil Mishra and Tajinder Bagga were today (8 November) detained by the Delhi Police while they were on their way to hold a protest at Rajghat in support of Republic TV Editor In Chief Arnab Goswami, Press Trust of India has reported.
Mishra and Bagga wanted to stage a protest near the Mahatma Gandhi's memorial at Rajghat but were taken by the cops to the Rajender Nagar police station.
Following the detention of the BJP leaders and two others, the cops claimed that they tried to violate orders by insisting that they hold a protest at Rajghat.
Mishra had earlier taken to twitter to claim that the Delhi Police had imposed section 144 at Rajghat ahead of their planned protest.
The BJP leaders had announced their protest to demand the release of Arnab Goswami who has been jailed by Maharashtra Police - in what many allege is part of a vendetta against the journalist by the Shiv Sena led Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi government.
Arnab was arrested from his residence on 4 November and has now been shifted to Taloja Jail. He has alleged that his life is in danger and that cops have been assaulting him.
