BJP's Member of Parliaments (MP) Tejaswi Surya and Anantkumar Hegde have opposed the Bruhut Bengalaru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) decision to give only Muslim names to roads in Padarayanapura, Daiji World has reported.
As per reports, BBMP had decided to rename the roads in ward 135 of Padarayanapura and it was it was found that all the names proposed were of Muslims.
Both Hedge and Surya have since then written to the BBMP to reconsider this decision.
"Naming roads in Muslim-dominated locality after Muslims reeks of the same communal mentality as 2-nation theory and Muslim League's demand of separate electorates", Surya tweeted.
In his letter Surya has also said that there is no dearth of non-Muslims patriots and public figures after whom the roads can be renamed.
Hegde too in his letter has stated that roads in the said ward should be named after freedom fighters and great leaders of the country.
