To push further the discourse on Prime Minister (PM) Narendra Modi's clarion call for "One Nation, One Election" and build consensus around it, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to organise 25 webinars over the coming weeks on the idea's merits, reports Hindustan Times.

The webinars would be addressed by senior BJP leaders and attended by academics and legal experts. These would be aimed at creating awareness around the conduction of simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State assemblies.

It should be noted that PM Modi has asserted on multiple occasions the need for simultaneous elections in India, where elections of one kind or another are held every few months, disrupting the development work owing to the imposition of the model code of conduct.

In his latest push to the idea, PM Modi had made a pitch for it at the concluding session of the 80th All India presiding Officers Conference. He had pressed that it is a must for the nation to have a deep study and deliberation on the simultaneous elections.

In 2016, Government's think tank NITI Aayog had also published a discussion paper titled "Analysis of Simultaneous Elections: The What, Why and How". In the paper, it had been proposed that the elections could be held in two cycles with an interregnum of 30 months, whereby 14 States would go to polls along with the Lok Sabha elections, while the rest would undergo elections two-and-a-half years later.
