Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)'s strength in the Rajya Sabha has now surged to the highest ever in terms of the number of members in the house, while Congress's tally has dipped to the party's lowest ever, reports Times of India.

With nine of the 11 newly-elected Rajya Sabha members belonging to BJP, the party's total strength in the Upper House now stands at 92 members.

Meanwhile, the Congress party is only left with 38 members in the Rajya Sabha. The gap in the tally of the two parties' strength in the Upper House is also at its widest ever.

In the 245 member house, BJP's allies now have 18 members, Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress has 13 members, AIADMK and Naveen Patnaik led BJD have nine members each, and other parties have 63 members. Meanwhile, three seats continue to remain vacant.

The increased strength for BJP led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is likely to further bolster the Government's ability to get its legislative agenda approved by the Upper House with ease.

Among those who were elected unopposed to the house included the incumbent Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs Hardeep Singh Puri, BJP's general secretary Arun Singh, and the son of former prime minister (PM) Chandra Shekhar, Neeraj Shekhar.

Meanwhile, the combined tally of Congress in both Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha has dipped to 89.
