Kolkata’s northern sub-urban area witnessed a blast today that took the life of a person and injured nine others. The explosion happened in Nagerbazar in front of a multi-storey building. Reason for the blast is not known yet.
An officer from Bengal police was quoted saying, “It was a high-intensity blast. Four people were seriously injured, and six others sustained minor injuries. We found some iron nails (at the site), but we cannot ascertain the cause of the blast yet as there is no smell of gunpowder.”

The blast took place around 9 in the morning in a very packed neighbourhood. The local police jurisdiction falls under Dum Dum PS. The injured have been admitted into RG Kar Medical Hospital. One person who faced injuries died at the hospital.
Forensic team, sniffer dogs have reached the spot to find out the reason for the blast. CID’s bomb-disposal squad is present at the spot too.
South Dum Dum Municipality Chairman Panchu Roy has claimed that he was the actual target of the explosion. He said, “It was a planned blast... They had planned to kill me and other TMC workers, as it would create panic and help them gain foothold in the area,” quoted PTI.
Bengal state cabinet minister Purnendu Basu suspects RSS’ hand in the blast.
