In a big boost to connectivity and tourism in the state of Himachal Pradesh, the Union Government has approved a ropeway project for the picturesque Pangi valley area of the Chamba district of the state, reports Livemint.

The announcement was made public by State's Chief Minister (CM) Jai Ram Thakur on Tuesday (1 October). The CM said that the 21.4 km long ropeway project would connect Bhanodi to Pregara. It would be completed and commissioned in five stages.

The project which would cost Rs 600 crore to the exchequer would result in all-weather connectivity and bypass the Saach Pass which remains closed for seven months in a year because of heavy snowfall.

The project will be carried out by the state-run Ropeway and Rapid Transport System Development Corporation over the Saach Pass at an altitude of 14,500 feet. Once connected, the ropeway would greatly ease the movement of tourists and residents in the region.
