In a stark development, United Kingdom (UK)'s top intelligence agency MI6 is said to have alerted China against the lifting of the lockdown in its territory, warning of adverse consequences in the form of a second wave of COVID-19 outbreak, reports WION.

MI6 had stressed that lifting the lockdown as of now could lead to China witnessing an upsurge in the imported cases and push the nation back into a state of ‘paralysis’.

It should be noted that MI6 had previously also asserted on the British Ministers that China was significantly under-reporting the number of COVID-19 cases and deaths in its territory over the months of January and February. This observation of the MI6 marked consonance with similar briefings given by the United States' lead intelligence agency CIA to the White House.

Meanwhile, the UK's domestic intelligence agency MI5 had gone as far as to suggest that the UK needs to reassess its relationship with China after the outbreak settles. It had urged the authorities in Uk to consider if tighter controls are needed on high-tech and other strategic industries of the UK.
