According to a survey conducted by Survation Ltd for ITV, Prime Minister Theresa May’s Brexit strategy seems to reflect the principal mood in Britain.

As the United Kingdom prepares to withdraw itself from the European Union (EU), about 58 per cent of the respondents polled say the increase of foreign migrants is more troublesome than suffering the loss of EU trade benefits.

While London is more dismayed at the prospect of losing the market benefits, rest of Britain is more alarmed by the growing numbers of workers coming in from overseas. It is this alarmed section of British citizens that May seems to be more concerned about over the interests of the banking world.

As the pound lost 18 per cent of its value following the Brexit vote, even if another referendum would take place now, 47 per cent of the respondents would vote for “Leave”, compared to 46 percent for “Remain”.

The referendum’s outcome signals genuine criticism of the EU’s policy of open borders. So, the more the naysayers of Brexit try to hinder popular will, the more tenacious and intense the reaction will be.
