FM Sitharaman also pushed on the States and Union Territories (UTs) to ensure that all the conventional electricity meters are replaced with pre-paid smart meters in a timeframe of three years.
This, as per FM Sitharaman, will provide the consumers with freedom to choose the supplier and rate as per the requirements. She also apprised the Lok Sabha that the Government will be taking up steps to provide relief to the power distribution companies (DISCOMs).
