Budget: Ind-SAT Exam To Be Introduced For Students From Asia, Africa To Make India A Higher Education Destination

In the Union Budget for the financial year (FY) 2020-21, Finance Minister (FM) Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday (1 February) announced the introduction of 'Ind-SAT' examination to attract students from foreign countries and make India a global destination for higher education.

Ind-SAT will be an exam for Asian and African countries to help make India a higher education destination, said the finance minister, while also announcing the allocation of Rs 99,300 Crore for the education sector in this year’s Budget.

While acknowledging that India was going to have the largest working-age population in the world by 2030,FM Sitharaman also said the government would take steps to deliver higher quality education to the youth.

She further introduced a plan under which top 100 educational institutions in the country will be offering degree-level full-fledged online education programmes.

The FM also assured that the new education policy for the country would be launched soon.
