Continuing its acquisition spree, edtech company BYJU’s has acquired skillset platform Great Learning along with learning application Toppr in a cash and stock deal.
Apparently, BYJU’s will shell out a total sum of $750 million to procure the two platforms, out of which Great Learning will cost around $600 million.
The startup, termed to be the most valuable one in India, has spent more than $2.2 billion in purchasing several complementary businesses.
BYJU’s apparently targets expanding its reach in the overseas markets through its latest acquisitions.
By procuring Toppr, the company is possibly looking to further strengthen its presence in the kindergarten to Class 12 (K-12) learning segment considering that it already faces tough competition from the likes of Unacademy and Vedantu in this sector.
Similarly, the startup faces mounting challenges from the likes of upGrad and Simplilearn in the upskilling/reskilling sector, which it plans to navigate through the purchase of Great Learning.
In recent times, it has also take over Epic, which is a US-based online reading platform particularly for kids. BYJU’s spent around $500 million in that specific deal, Money Control reports.
