In a positive development, police forces have successfully eliminated five Naxals in an ongoing anti-Naxal operation in the Khobramenda forest area of Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district, reports Times of India.
The operation comes after the district police on Saturday (27 March) conducted a similar operation in the Hetalkasa forest area of Gadchiroli. Acting on the intelligence about Naxals gathering in large numbers in the forest on the backdrop of the "Naxal week" observed by them, the C-60 commandos of the police force conducted an operation.
The operation had seen around 60-70 Naxals opening fire on the commandos, who then retaliated. After firing from both sides continuing for about an hour, the Naxals had then fled from the spot.
The operation had led to a seizure of a rifle and three pressure cooker bombs which the Naxals were allegedly planning to use to ambush the security forces.
It should be noted that C-60 commandos are a dedicated and specialised anti-Naxal unit of the police forces.
