In a strong-worded diatribe against Mehul Choksi, the Prime Minister (PM) of Antigua, Gaston Browne said on Wednesday (25 September) that he is a 'crook' and the Indian officials are free to interrogate him, reports the Times of India.

Asserting that Choksi doesn't add any value to the nation of Antigua, Browne said that ultimately Choksi will be deported to India after his appeals under the law would exhaust.

The comments from the Antiguan PM come as a huge shot in the arm for the Indian law enforcement agencies which have been going all out to get fugitive economic offenders like Choksi, diamantaire Nirav Modi and liquor baron Vijay Mallya deported back to India.

Choksi had fled the nation along with his nephew Nirav Modi a year back. They have both been implicated in the infamous $2 billion Punjab National Bank fraud case. After leaving the nation, Choksi had taken up the citizenship of Antigua and Barbuda on 15 January 2018. Choksi has since been resident there.

Meanwhile, it should be noted that Choksi had submitted in an affidavit to the Bombay High Court on 17 June this year that he was willing to cooperate in the infamous scam in which he has been implicated.
