India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat has decided to donate Rs 50,000 out of his salary each month of the next one year to the PM-CARES fund to add to the national effort against COVID-19 pandemic, reports Hindustan Times.

CDS Rawat had written to the concerned authorities in March, asking them to deduct the sum and donate it to PM-CARES fund for the next one year each month. In the implementation of the same, the first contribution from CDS Rawat's salary was deducted and deposited in the fund in April.

This comes in addition to the one-day salary donated by CDS Rawat to the fund in a collective move by all other defence services' personnel in the month of March. Since then, the personnel under the Ministry of Defence (MoD) have been given an option to donate one-day salary each month for next one year on a voluntary basis.

Meanwhile, it should also be noted that apart from the armed forces personnel and CDS Rawat, the former Coast Guard chief Rajendra Singh who is also a present member of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has also donated 30 per cent of his salary to the fund to bolster the nation fight against the pandemic.
