In a bid to boost the income of farmers, the Central government has asked the states for faster implementation of the Pradhan Matri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme and urged them to send the list of beneficiaries at the earliest, reports Hindu Businessline.
Addressing the State Agriculture Minister's Conference, Union Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar said that the funds for the implementation of the scheme have been kept in the budget and is ready to be transferred to the farmer's bank accounts.
Tomar also said, "It is the responsibility of the states to ensure that the benefit of this scheme reaches all the eligible farmers,"
As of 5 July, a total of 3.56 crore farmers have received the first instalment of Rs 2,000 while as many as 3.10 crore have received the second instalment, said a senior agriculture ministry official.
The official has asked the states to send in the beneficiary data to the Centre by July-end so that farmers do not miss their April-July instalment of Rs 2,000.
Meanwhile, it should be noted that the Government of West Bengal has not joined the scheme. Also, the Government of Bihar has so far given the data of only 8.38 lakh farmers out of the total 1.63 crore eligible beneficiaries, the official said.
