India’s second mission to the Moon had a generous contribution from the private sector too, with companies such as L&T and Godrej helping ISRO with their manufacturing prowesses, PTI has reported.

While L&T pitched in with critical flight hardware, assemblies and sub-systems for the Chandrayaan 2 mission, the company has been associated with all generations of launch vehicles, said J D Patil, Whole-time Director and Senior Executive Vice President for L&T's Defence and L&T-NxT businesses.

The head end, middle and nozzle end segments of the S-200 solid boosters of the GSLV MKIII were manufactured at L&T's Powai Aerospace Workshop while also supplying Umbilical and Honey Comb Deck Panels for the launch. It was also involved in testing several systems used in the mission.

Godrej meanwhile worked on the other two stages of the rocket apart from other components.

"Godrej's contribution to the mission includes critical equipment such as L110 engine and CE20 engine for the launcher GSLV Mk III, thrusters for the orbiter and lander, and components for the DSN antenna," Godrej Aerospace Executive Vice President and Business Head SM Vaidya said.

Several other smaller privates like Ananth Technologies, MTAR Technologies, Inox Technologies, Lakshmi Machine Works, Centum Avasarala and Karnataka Hybrid Microdevices also helped in the mission while Central PSU SAIL pitched in with special-quality stainless steel from its Salem steel plant for the mission.
