‘Changes In Citizenship Amendment Act Will Be Done To Address Concern Of NE States If Needed’: Amit Shah  

In a major development after the President's assent to the amendments passed by the Parliament to the Citizenship Act, Union Minister for Home Affairs Amit Shah on Saturday (14 December) hinted that certain changes could be made in the law to address the concerns of the northeastern States, reports the Times of India.

Post meeting with Meghalaya Chief Minister (CM) Conrad Sangma and his ministers on Friday, Amit Shah said that he has assured CM Sangma that post Christmas, constructive discussions will be held to come up with solutions to Meghalaya's problems.

Shah's assurance came after CM Sangma informed the former about the problems that the State is facing, and insisted on some changes needed to be brought into the law. Shah shared the details of his meeting with CM Sangma at a public rally in Jharkhand's Giridih.

It should be noted that in another rally, Shah has blamed the Indian National Congress (INC) for instigating violence in the northeastern States over the amendments enacted into the Citizenship Act.
