A Naxal terrorist, Madvi Muyya, who played a role in the killings of a Doordarshan News cameraman Achyutanand Sahu and a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Bhima Mandavi, was neutralised in an encounter in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada district on Monday (29 April), reports India Today.

The information was released by Dantewada SP Abhishek Pallav. A rifle and six rounds of ammunition were recovered from the body of the slain terrorist.

The death of the Naxal operative is a major victory for authorities in Chhattisgarh as Muyya was known for his role in several high profile attacks.

On 30 October, Muyya was part of a group of Naxals who carried out an attack in Nilawaya village in Dantewada district, killing the cameraman and injuring two police personnel.

He was also one of the masterminds behind the attack which claimed the lives of Mandavi and five police officials along with him. An IED blast had ripped through the MLA’s vehicle when it was traversing through the Dantewada district.

Authorities had placed a Rs 8 lakh award on Muyya after the attack.
