Chinese Handset Maker Xiaomi Pips Samsung To Become Biggest Seller Of Phones In India With 16 Per Cent Market Share

In a massive success for the Chinese smartphone giant Xiaomi, the company has pipped the South Korean counterpart Samsung to become the nation's largest seller of smartphones and feature phones in the quarter which ended in December, reports Economic Times.

Xiaomi held an overall market share of 16 per cent in the December quarter with Samsung and Reliance Retail trailing behind in the combined sales of smartphones and feature phones as per the data released by market intelligence provider International Data Corporation (IDC).

It should also be noted that Xiaomi's India head and global vice president Manu Sharma has claimed that the company's smartphone sales have surpassed the combined sales of smartphones and feature phones sold by Reliance Retail and Samsung.

Meanwhile, in another setback for Samsung in the December quarter, the company slipped behind United States (US) based Apple Inc's iPhone in the premium smartphone category which comprises of phone priced at $500 or more.
